What is a tarot card reading?
Tarot is a deck of 78 illustrated cards. It began as a card game in fifteenth-century Italy and has been used for reflection and fortune-telling since the eighteenth century. Each card carries a picture and a theme — a beginning, a choice, a change, a rest — and a reading is the act of drawing a card and asking what it says about your situation.
Tarot of the Day is the simplest kind of reading: one card, one day. It will not tell you your whole future. It gives you one clear idea to carry through today.
- The 22 Major Arcana
- The deck has two parts. The 56 Minor Arcana deal with everyday matters, and the 22 Major Arcana — from The Fool to The World — show the big themes of life. We use only the Major Arcana, so every card you draw has a strong, clear meaning.
- Upright and reversed
- A card can come out upright or upside down. Upright, its meaning flows freely. Reversed, the same energy is blocked, delayed or turned inwards. A reversed card is not bad luck; it shows where to slow down and pay attention.
- How to draw
- Enter your name, then take a moment to think about your day or a question on your mind. The 22 cards are laid face down. Choose the one you feel drawn to and confirm — you can change your choice until you do.
- What you will see
- The card and whether it is upright or reversed, its keywords, today's message, and what the card means for love and for work and money.
- One card a day
- Your card stays the same for the rest of the day, however many times you come back. A new card is waiting tomorrow.
- How to take it
- Tarot does not fix what will happen. Read your card as a prompt: notice which part of the message fits your day, and let it help you choose how to act.
